She was sweet and professional with her patients and their families. As a student, having a mentor go out of their way to teach is irreplaceable.
As the nurse manager of the ED, I receive feedback from staff, patients, families, and students. The below story from a paramedic student clearly displays why Kayla should be honored with a DAISY Award. It shows her willingness to go above and beyond for not only patients and families, but for those future healthcare professionals who learn with our team. Here is what he said:

"Kayla Blake was working and asked if I wanted to tag along with her for my time. Kayla was inclusive, kind, energetic, and patient. She took the time to show me around, explain equipment and procedures to me, and even went out of her way to make sure that I got to be included in watching a procedure with a patient that was in SVT. Even though the nurses in the emergency room are very busy, all of the staff that morning were kind and accepting of me being there. She was sweet and professional with her patients and their families. As a student, having a mentor go out of their way to teach is irreplaceable. She was busy and didn't have to take the time that she did to teach me but I really appreciate that she did! One thing that really stuck out to me during my time was, while the nurses were attending to the distraught baby in SVT, Kayla took a moment to inform the emotional mother what was happening and what the plan was for her daughter. I could see some relief on the mother's face after this"
