My team called Bridget for help. Without hesitation, she drove from her home to SJMC, picked up the Hemospray, and then drove it to us.
I was called to St. Clare for a GI bleeder that had a large duodenal ulcer with a visible vessel. The lesion was not amenable to clip placement and was also not in an area that could be safely cauterized. We discovered that we did not have Hemospray on the cart. My team called Bridget for help. Without hesitation, she drove from her home to SJMC, picked up the Hemospray, and then drove it to us.

While she was doing that, the vessel spontaneously erupted and we had to pause and further resuscitate the patient. Once we went back in, we were able to control the bleeding successfully with the Hemospray that Bridget so selflessly provided. She then stayed to help clean the scope even though she could have just gone home. Bridget saved that patient. That is all I can say. He was transferred to SJMC where he successfully underwent coiling of the GDA by IR. The public and hospital administration do not see nor do they completely appreciate the sacrifices that our nurses make. Bridget embodies the “calling” of nursing that is lost on many in her profession. It is not just a job for her, it is who she is. I am honored to work with her and hold her in extremely high regard.
