This student exemplifies compassion on every level. Her care and concern for the well-being of patients is remarkable. On one occasion, she shared a heartfelt concern about a patient she took care of who had suffered a heart attack. While nursing students are challenged to learn how to address the physical needs of the patient, she took her care a step further by reflecting on how this situation may play out for this gravely ill patient and her family from a psychosocial perspective. She put herself in the patient’s and family’s shoes and considered how it might feel if this were the last time the patient spoke to her husband. This is just one example of her compassion.

She is known to bring homemade baked goods to class to share with her peers and faculty as a simple expression of how much she cares. As her classmates were trying to understand how to register for the NCLEX exam, she compiled an information document to help with the process and sent it to the group, wishing them luck and signing, “Love you guys.”

Furthermore, this student is a high-performing student committed to academic and clinical excellence. When her unit received new vital sign machines, she attended training to become a Superuser. She is always pleasant, a bright light, and a resource to those around her. She is compassionate in a holistic way, the true definition of an extraordinary nursing student who will be an extraordinary nurse.
