Angie Lassiter has dedicated her professional career to hospice care starting in 1992. She began as a hospice nurse in a multicounty area and soon advanced to nurse manager. Angie is uniquely gifted in compassionate care for those patients near end of life. She has sat by the bedside holding the hands of countless patients as they entered into the next life. She has cried with those left behind and supported family members as they walked through the grieving process. The touch of her hands has given, love, care, and compassion to those patients she served at the bedside and as Nurse Leader. Because of the impact on her circle of influence, I (we) nominate her for the DAISY Nurse Leader Award. Her kindness is seen daily: however, her kindness does not mean she lets things slip with her staff. She demands excellence in care given by her and she expects her staff to give the same exceptional care. She gives direction to her staff with intention. She is a motivator to those around her which distinguishes hospice care in Eastern North Carolina. She is a mentor to many nurses and staff as they expand their careers in the hospice field leading by example. She does the right thing for the right reason. Angie continues to serve with excellence in the hospice field. With all the changes over the years, it is because of individuals like Angie that the "special" end of life care remains available to people of Eastern NC.
