Nicole would come in and comb my mom’s hair, and wash her face so carefully. She answered questions as we continued asking. The first night she talked to my stepfather at length, as he would not sleep. So, not only did Nicole take care of my mom, but my stepfather also. She informed me about my mom’s condition and my stepfather also. She knew her stuff, rarely leaving our side and constantly checking on my mom. I cannot say enough about the nurses and Memorial. In the most horrible time of our life, my God, I am thankful for Nicole. To me, she was heaven-sent, knowing what she was doing. She is humble and beautiful taking the best care of my mom and us in the most difficult time. She was professional and compassionate. She even comforted Mom by applying ointment to her lips which were getting dry. I will forever remember and be thankful for the blessing of her tending to our mom and family. She went to great lengths to provide our mom with the dignity she deserved, by keeping her appearance so that her family wouldn’t be shocked by seeing her any other way. She commented on how beautiful and fancy she appeared to be. Family members were hugged and comforted. She was an example of what the DAISY Award was created for.
