I know that when I leave H in Katy's care she will interact with him, give him comfort if he needs it, and even take the time to sit and read H a story if he is unsettled.
Ever since Katy first took care of my son H, she always showed so much care and support not just to him but to us as a family. Along our journey, Katy has become a crucial member of our named nursing team. Supporting us as H's parents to train in feeding him, giving him a bath, and just meeting his needs that come very easily to a "normal parent" but can be very challenging to long-term ICU families.

Katy has been a huge support and has given us advice and guidance on some very big and life-changing decisions in regard to H and the journey he is on. Since H has had his tracheostomy surgery Katy has gone above and beyond to learn new techniques for doing tape changes, ensuring other nurses understand the importance of tracheostomy care, and also just ensuring that when we feel overwhelmed she sits and talks through our thoughts and feelings. Katy has also supported us in learning some simple sign language to make communication easier for H and has gone out of her way to find signs if we are unsure of what they are.

I know that when I leave H in Katy's care she will interact with him, give him comfort if he needs it, and even take the time to sit and read H a story if he is unsettled. The dedication Katy shows not only to being a nurse but also a friend has impacted our time here in CPICU for the better. We will always be grateful to Katy.
