After some discussion between the patient and Yangji, he agreed to go to rehab. Yangji stated several times that she just didn't feel comfortable sending this patient home.
Yangji is absolutely one of a kind. She is definitely in the profession she is meant to be in. While on the 8th floor that particular day, picking up a patient to be discharged and transferred back home, Yangji went absolutely above and beyond to advocate for this patient. My partner and I were absolutely blown away by the compassion Yangji showed. The patient is a double leg amputee, lives by himself in an apartment on the 8th floor of his apartment building. The patient was initially supposed to go to a rehab facility in Colorado, but the patient refused due to cost and not having transportation to come back home. Yangji asked us to wait while she talked to the patient again and let him and us know that she was very concerned about his well-being since he lives alone and has very limited mobility. After some discussion between the patient and Yangji, he agreed to go to rehab. Yangji stated several times that she just didn't feel comfortable sending this patient home with no help or assistance to care for himself. Needless to say, the transfer was canceled. My partner and I agreed that neither one of us has met a nurse with that much heart, compassion, and honest concern for a patient's well-being after they have been discharged.
Her heart is definitely in the right place and she is definitely in the right profession. Way to go Yangji, you blew us away! I sure wish we had many more genuinely caring nurses like her. This job should not be all about money and what's best for the company, it's about what's right and what's best for the patient, even after discharge.
