Thank you so much for taking the extra steps. Please continue doing what you are doing, as there are more people out there who are illiterate and prefer not to say. You are a very kind person (before being a nurse). The world needs a few more people just like you.
I want to take a moment to talk about Tara from Cardiac Care.

I do not have a lot to say but sometimes it only takes a small act for someone to be outstanding or to do outstanding actions in someone else’s eyes.

I need to share some background. My father was the best man I have ever known. He worked as a janitor all his life.  He was the best janitor his company ever had. You would think he was the CEO because he always had the smile on his face and always did his job to his utmost best and then some. He taught his kids to give at least 110%.

What many people did not know about my dad is that he only had a third-grade education. He had to leave school to help with his siblings as he was the oldest and his parents were ill.  He could read and write his name, a few words and count but that was the extent of his education. He had the desire to learn. Most of what he knew he learned from life circumstances.

Tara’s service to me had me thinking so much about my dad because not only did she take the time to explain all the details in the manuals concerning my care; she also gave me hospital information so I would understand the different units I had or may be admitted to. Tara took time to go over each page and pointed out the highlights and lowlights in addition to asking if I had any questions. She made sure I had a full understanding of everything concerning my procedures, care, medications, and the actual facility. This type of action would have greatly benefitted my father. Tara did not know whether I could read or write or if I had a Ph.D. She still took the time to explain everything without even asking and anyone who had met my dad would have never known, but this would have been an earthly blessing to him. Had Tara been his nurse during one of his hospital visits the whole visit would have been much more rewarding to him and would have made a big difference to him.

THANK YOU TARA, on behalf of my dad and others like him who cannot read and write and don’t wear a sign around their neck saying that they are illiterate. Thank you so much for taking the extra steps. Please continue doing what you are doing, as there are more people out there who are illiterate and prefer not to say. You are a very kind person (before being a nurse). The world needs a few more people just like you. It helps me to believe that there are folks out there who really do care about people. You could have done your diligence with the “extra” and it would have still been acceptable. I appreciate you. Tara, my dad would have LOVED you and would have remembered you in his prayers for probably the remainder of his life. You made a difference to me because you would have made a difference to him.

My father’s name was JLM and I found out when I was 50 years old that he was not my biological father. It racked my soul initially to learn that I didn’t have his blood, but guess what? I really, really did because he put his blood in me by being the kind of God-fearing man and father who did everything with God's heart, not his.

Thank you for allowing me to share my heart (pun intended) with you!
