When we got off of the elevator, there was Josh waiting to hug her and tell her goodbye and remind her to take care of herself.
In the past 6 weeks, my mom has spent 26 days in the hospital at LKH. She has had 3 different hospitalizations here. On the second visit, she was fortunate enough to have Josh as her nurse. She had a new feeding tube put in and it was not working right. Every nurse tried to get ahold of the doctor to come in and look at it. After a couple of days, the doctor came in, looked at it, and said that it should be working, and then left. My mom went two days without her formula and Josh spent hours during those two days trying to figure out the machine. He then took time to show me how to use the machine. He even stopped in to check on her when she was not directly his patient. Her 3rd time admitted, she went to the ICU first, and again, her tube was not working. Josh came down to the ICU to check on my mom. He even looked at the X-rays and was convinced that her tube was no longer connected to her intestines. Sure enough, the next day, the tube fell completely out. She was moved to the Medical floor and Josh was her nurse. When it was time for Mom to be discharged. I found Josh and thanked him for everything and then we got on the elevator. When we got off of the elevator, there was Josh waiting to hug her and tell her goodbye and remind her to take care of herself. All of the nurses were wonderful during her various stays but Josh went above and beyond to show he cared about every aspect of her healing. He was patient, gentle, kind, and knowledgeable. I cannot think of anyone more deserving of the award.
