I cannot thank you enough for all you have done to ensure my dad received excellent care. My father has been hospitalized many times over the past 4 years, each time in a different wing of the hospital. I would like to nominate this nurse who is one of the most remarkable people I have ever met in, or out of, health care. She worked tirelessly the day my father arrived under observation to ensure he had extraordinary care and helped us avoid repeating past mistakes. She labeled my dad's GJ tube so that the nurses can easily see which port is for meds and which is for tube feed. This prevented crushed meds from winding up in the thin J tube, stuck and unable to be absorbed. She learned all about my father's needs and preferences while simultaneously putting my family at ease with her genuine compassion. When she learned that our family lost our discharge appeal and that my father was re-hospitalized 3 days later, she worked with the doctor to ensure my father was admitted in the appropriate status. She asked that the doctor take a closer look at my dad's chart and review the many challenging and serious health issues within it. She also worked to get approval for extended visiting hours for my mom. My mom wanted to spend as much time as she could with her husband as possible. Also, my father cannot advocate for himself, so my mother's presence is an important aspect of his care. Lastly, transportation on many nights right at 8 pm is an issue for the family. She took all of this into consideration and was able to get approval and provide individualized care for my father and his family. This visitation extension meant so much to my family and has relieved a lot of stress! She also introduced my family to the entire leadership team so we would know who to go to if she was not working. These examples are just a few of the ways this nurse has gone above and beyond. Having a loved one hospitalized is one of the most stressful things one can experience. Knowing that we have her in our court has eased our anxieties and has turned a scary experience into one in which my family was able to experience gratitude.
