She was so gracious and understanding and knew exactly what to say. A kind angel to help me navigate all those overwhelming feelings. I know she had a busy morning but, in that moment, she took the time to just sit with me and hold my hand.
It is my honor and pleasure to nominate Amy Smith, RN, in the Cancer Center for a DAISY Award. Amy has been my nurse over the last year multiple times, and I've always thought she was such a lovely person, both on the inside and out, as she has always made me feel comfortable while getting chemo treatments. But last week, when I went in to get a shot to boost my white blood cells, I was really struggling emotionally/mentally regarding my relapse and the upcoming CAR-Ttherapy I am about to receive. was on the verge of tears the whole morning and I think I was panicking. I told Amy how I was feeling, and I started to unload. I think I felt safe with Amy and just started to babble. She finished her job with my shot then immediately sat with me and held my hand while I proceeded to dump all my emotions out. Amy offered to get someone for me but, honestly, I only wanted to talk to her, not some stranger. She was so gracious and understanding and knew exactly what to say. A kind angel to help me navigate all those overwhelming feelings. I know she had a busy morning but, in that moment, she took the time to just sit with me and hold my hand. I am sure she feels she was just doing her job helping a patient during a time of crisis, but to me, she was the perfect person to walk me through those emotions that morning. Those acts of kindness are things that I will never forget. I felt much better after that and I continue to find strength in her heartfelt words. Many, many thanks to Amy, for choosing this profession and thank you for choosing me that morning to give me what was supposed to be a simple, quick shot that turned in a counseling session! I hope she knows that she made a huge difference in someone's life. I am also thankful to CRMC for hiring such a beautiful person.
