The family thanked her so much. They were so happy to see their daughter's hair all done again after everything they have gone through during this hospitalization.
Marissa Is one of our trauma code nurses and relief charges in the PICU. I have seen her grow to become a leader in the unit. She's done a great job being a relief charge nurse and a trauma code nurse. As a trauma code nurse, she rounds and educates our newer staff. She guides them and acts as a resource for them throughout their shift. She takes her time educating our newer staff and spends extra time helping them, especially during a procedure they are not comfortable with. On our quarterly rounds with our staff her name is always mentioned by staff as super helpful, approachable, and very smart. As a trauma code she also has to round on our watchers on the floors. The charges on the floors are always happy to see her as the TC nurse. They have made comments as Marissa spends extra time on the floor assessing the patients and making sure that the patients are stable enough until the next time the patient gets evaluated or rounded on.

These are just some of her duties on a regular shift. But one of the things that makes Marissa shine is what she did for one of our end-of-life patients during one of her busy shifts as a trauma code nurse. The patient had very long hair. She had a VTM done. After this gets discontinued, she spent her time helping the family wash her hair. She took her time to untangle and remove all the glues from the VTM. After that, she also spent her time braiding the patient's hair. The family thanked her so much. They were so happy to see their daughter's hair all done again after everything they have gone through during this hospitalization.

It's the little things and the simplest things we do for our patients and their families that we think is just part of our care as a nurse but is very much appreciated and what matters the most to our families, especially to their daughter whom they will be losing soon. I think the extra time and effort that Marissa always give to anything she does especially for this family makes her a true DAISY Nurse.
