Jourdan was our night nurse over the Christmas holiday when my son (11 months old) was admitted to the PICU. Spending his first Christmas in the ICU was made better because of her. While all of the nurses delivered great care - she stood out. She came in promptly at the start of the shift and made everything better and more comfortable from the moment we met. I am a nurse and I spent the entire time in bed holding my son who was admitted with respiratory issues, even though I am also a medical professional, I was a mom first and needed someone like her who just cared for us. Both my husband and I noticed immediately the little (BIG) things Jourdan did that made her stand out. She took the time to clean our room, make up the hospital bed (while I stretched for a few minutes), and then set up my son's many lines so that we could safely lay in bed and not worry about him accidentally pulling something out -helping us all sleep better and feel more rested. She explained everything to us and she made us feel heard and supported. While the things that made a difference for us may seem little to most people, she was as kin to an angel in our eyes and we still think about her fondly to this day. When I asked how long she had been a nurse her answer was surprising - not long. The skills she brings cannot be learned and she truly is just a person who sees her patients as humans, something that should never be overlooked. LB is a better place for having her there.
