After getting a phone call that my husband had been transferred to the ICU, I arrived at the hospital very scared and stressed during morning shift change. Neal took the time to explain everything that had happened since I left at midnight the night before. I had a million questions every time he came in due to machine alarms and my husband’s condition. Neal empowered me by teaching me what the various alarms meant, what to look for on the machines, and when to be alarmed about something. Even when my husband was incoherent and unresponsive, Neal took the time to explain everything he was doing to him. At the end of his shift one day as Neal was leaving the floor, my husband’s condom Cath came off and he had an accident in his bed. The nurse’s aide was in the room seeing what she needed to get my husband cleaned up, Neal walked by and saw her in the room and came in to help. He stayed until my husband was clean and his bed was dry. We appreciate Neal’s care throughout my husband’s ICU stay.
