Her cheerful demeanor and smile made me feel very comfortable.
I had hip replacement surgery at Silver Cross Hospital and I was placed in the outpatient day surgery section of the hospital. For the most part, most of the staff were personable and friendly. However, one nurse stood way above the others. That nurse had the name, “Lana P.” on her badge. From the very beginning of my preparation for surgery, she came in and introduced herself to my wife and me. She stated that she would be my nurse. Her cheerful demeanor and smile made me feel very comfortable. Following surgery, others came into my room, but none came near to displaying her positivity. Her dedication to her profession was clearly evident. After surgery, I was told by my doctor that I could go home. After lying in bed for some time, the PT came in and quickly went over the protocol for dismissal. I was asked to get out of bed, for the first time after surgery and practice walking on the stairs. I became nauseous and immediately was put back into bed. Both the PT and another nurse were sure the doctor should be called, and I should be admitted. I said I felt fine and would only need a little more time. Then Lana P came with a big smile and asked if we wanted her to call my doctor, wait a while, and try again. She said she would have to get PT again and I would have to pass their requirements before I went home. She was so pleasant and patient. I think Lana P. deserves this award for her patience and positive attitude. She was also very humble. When I asked her about the DAISY Award and how to nominate, she just laughed and said I didn’t need to do that. Telling her was enough! She displays true nursing professional qualities.
