The Nurse Executive team is proud to present The DAISY Lifetime Achievement Award to Ramona Pratt. We have all had the pleasure to observe this recipient in several positions during the years she served, including Registered Nurse, Care Center Coordinator, Care Center Administrator, Vice President of Nursing Operations, Chief Operating Officer PIH Health Physicians, PIH Health Downey Hospital Chief Operating Officer/Chief Nursing Officer, Vice President, Oncology Services, and most recently, PIH Health Whittier Hospital’s Chief Nursing Officer.

Ramona exemplifies the core values of this award. She has worked for over 40 years for PIH Health from being a Certified Nurse Assistant to a Registered Nurse, Nursing Manager, and to many roles as a Nurse Executive. Ramona has made a remarkable difference in nursing as it relates to clinical practice, patient safety, nursing research, and nursing leadership, and overall has impacted greatly the positive image of professional nursing.

Ramona is an extraordinary transformational leader and positive role model in all aspects of the nursing profession. She is highly skilled, a critical thinker, a collaborator, and a team builder. She inspires her leaders to learn more, think bigger, and become the best. She is a strong supporter of nurses pursuing advanced degrees and understands the impact of advanced education in nursing practice. Ramona has her Master of Science in Nursing and Healthcare Administration and a Bachelor of Science in Nursing from California State University, Long Beach.

Ramona advocates for the improvement of patient care tirelessly. She is a results-driven leader and does not give up on ideas or initiatives that will improve patient care and patient experience. As Florence Nightingale stated, “I think one’s feelings waste themselves in words; they ought all to be distilled into actions which bring about results." These traits were evident during the Covid pandemic. Throughout the pandemic, Ramona demonstrated resilient leadership, provided expert guidance, and worked closely with front-line staff and nursing leadership to ensure patients of PIH Health were provided outstanding compassionate care. We knew we had a captain at the helm, and she was not going to allow us to go under. Courage reigned in all of us because of her exceptional leadership through very difficult times.

Additionally, under her leadership, the organization has received numerous awards and recognitions including the Outstanding Patient Experience Award and Patient Safety Excellence Award by Healthgrades, as well as the NRC Health Excellence Award, which it has received for 10 years in a row.
