Grace was so patient, so compassionate, and incredibly caring and knowledgeable.

Last Monday, my dad was admitted to the hospital for observation for chest pain. He was admitted to 2N and when I came in the next morning, he had a nurse named Grace and a nursing student from Clarion. His nurse was so helpful the entire day. She kept us updated on his troponins that were elevating, she was quick to get him started on Heparin, and she was fast to his bedside anytime he developed chest pain.

Grace was so patient, so compassionate, and incredibly caring and knowledgeable. She constantly came to check on him and provided any updates on his transfer to another facility. The student continued to come back and check in as well. When my dad’s chest pain continued, this nurse immediately notified his doctors and they were quick to respond to him. They started him on a nitro drip and this nurse stayed by my dad’s side to ensure he was comfortable and increased his drip as needed.

His doctors were so helpful in facilitating his transfer and were wonderful advocates with Medcall. As you know, the system is very full and while we were hoping for Hamot as my dad is established with cardiology there, but we did secure a bed at Jameson. As stressful and scary as that was, I do think that NW staff did a wonderful job in keeping him as comfortable as they could and transferring him as quickly as possible.

My dad had three stents placed on three vessels that ranged from 70-90% blocked the next afternoon at UPMC Jameson. His recovery took a few interesting turns, but ultimately, he is much better, and he is home and well. I believe that my dad received wonderful care at UPMC Northwest while he was there, and they did everything to the best of their ability during his stay. Those moments are very scary from a patient/family perspective I’m forever grateful to them.
