Hannah is just that, she was our sunshine on a cloudy day.
I’m not exactly sure how to put into words the weighty impact Hannah has had on my family, but I am going to give it my best shot in this short blurb of words. I am hopeful I can paint a picture of the person my family has gotten so know over the past 40 days, with hopes that anyone reading this can get a small glimpse of the amazing nurse we have grown to love.

When I think of Hannah, the word “DELIGHT” comes to mind. When I looked up the word delight, it was surrounded by words such as to be of joy, pleasure, happiness, and comfort to others. On a gloomy day, it is a “delight” when the sun starts to poke through the clouds and provide that little reminder that the rain will soon be gone and the sun will rise once again tomorrow. Hannah is just that, she was our sunshine on a cloudy day. She was our constant in waves of uncertainty. She always reassured us with the hope that the sun would shine again tomorrow.

Hannah is more than an extraordinary nurse, you can tell that she has a fiery passion for providing care and comfort for her patients and their families. She always goes the extra mile. She is faithful in the little things- little things like putting cute outfits and bows in our daughter's hair (haha), setting up cute photo opportunities for her, and giving her a mobile or an iPad to look at while she was laying in her hospital crib, and helping us hold her for the first time 8 days after she was born. Her caring nature and willingness to go the extra mile never went unnoticed. Not only is she faithful in the little things, but she’s faithful in the BIG things too- like voicing our concerns and her concerns to providers (which ultimately ended up leading to catching an infection our daughter had). Anytime something was off with our girl, she voiced her concerns to the team and it was immediately addressed. She always made sure our girl was in the best hands possible and treated her like her own.

One of the hardest things about having a child in the NICU is the uncertainty the day will bring and the lack of control you have as your child’s parent. It’s hard to surrender to the fact that someone else has to take care of your baby in a way that you are unable to do. But when Hannah was our nurse, it was easy to let go of that control. It was obvious that she was the best when it comes to taking care of our daughter’s medical needs. Not only did she care for our daughter in such a loving way, but she taught us to do the same. Any day we knew Hannah was going to be our nurse was our favorite day because we knew Hannah was the gold standard of the nursing profession. She is an outstanding young woman, nurse, and now friend. She was our ray of sunshine during some of our cloudiest days. She is a pure delight. We love her so much!
