Nel took the time to sit and update us multiple times a shift as well as explain her goals for mom's care that day. Nel was very patient but direct which we appreciate.
My mother-in-law came to Grant ICU with severe sepsis and a cervical spine abscess. She had to be intubated prior to the MRI and went almost immediately to surgery to drain the abscess and address what ended up being a hematoma on her spine in the lumbar region. Mom had many great nurses since her admission but Nel stood out. Mom went to step-down but her trach dislodged and she had to be transferred back to ICU. Nel was assigned to Mom after returning to ICU. Nel took the time to sit and update us multiple times a shift as well as explain her goals for mom's care that day. Nel was very patient but direct which we appreciate. She always told us and Mom what she was doing when she came into the room as well as what the plan was for the day. Nel was proactive in getting mom weaned from sedation, got her up to a chair for a few hours a day, and was instrumental in getting her femoral line for her CRRT changed to a temporary HD catheter. Nel ended up working 5 days straight with Mom due to picking up extra shifts. Mom was always turned and taken care of by Nel. Our family was more than impressed with the care she received from Nel. Nel is the type of nurse you always want for yourself or your family member.
