Marie is an incredible leader. I do not think that there are truly words to adequately describe the amazing effect Marie has on our unit. She is the “glue that holds our unit together.” During the past few years, our unit has faced many difficult situations and challenges. Marie has ALWAYS made sure to be available to us both emotionally and physically; even if it meant being available by text or phone when she was not on the unit. She has an open-door policy that has created an environment of trust and mutual respect. Throughout the day I have observed staff come and go from her office. She always stops what she is doing and gives them her full attention and listens with intent. When you leave her office, you not only feel heard but that she will address your concerns and follow up. We have also had several issues with missing supplies and scheduling errors. As soon as I have asked, she gets on the phone and communicates up the chain of command to ensure the unit is stocked with the supplies we need and helps solves the underlying problem of why we are having issues. Her interactions with staff, patients, and family members leave you feeling validated. She affirms your feelings, showing her understanding by repeating the information back to you, asking clarifying questions, and giving you thoughtful feedback. She has given more hours to us than anyone and is very much appreciated and we would LOVE her to be honored for all she has done and gives to all of us.
