Nicole meets everything the DAISY Award values and more. I’m going to focus my nomination on the top reason Nicole is a DAISY Nurse: Quality care, specifically continuous improvement: Nicole has 4 board certifications, 3 of those in emergency nursing. She is pursuing her 5th certification this summer. In addition, attends at least 3 optional ENA conferences annually to learn the latest in our specialty area and is always looking for new ones to attend. Nicole is Northland’s lead preceptor and subject matter expert. She has taken this position to a whole new level. Starting with ensuring orientees have consistency with being assigned the same preceptors. On that note, she’s recruited some outstanding preceptors. Also, novice ED RNs now receive extensive education on pertinent ED topics at the site and system levels. This is something Nicole has personally pushed for. Furthermore, Nicole has created a Teams spreadsheet for each orientee where preceptors provide feedback each shift. That way she knows how her orientees are doing at all times and what else they may need during their orientation. Nicole truly has a passion for new staff and education across the ED career span. She is able to balance meeting the needs of her entire team: Orientees, preceptors, and staff RNs. Northland ED is a great place it is to work because of colleagues like Nicole. She is a true role model for myself and countless other staff. Patients and their families benefit on a daily basis because of her tireless efforts.
