Bonnie, Thank You Bonniie! Bonnie saved a brain! Her patient was admitted with a hemorrhagic stroke. All day she was keeping a close eye on her because she was going in and out of afib and knew she was at risk for a stroke or cardiac event. Between juggling her other 4 very busy patients she was frequently checking on this patient. On one assessment she noticed right away that this patient had new AMS and aphasia. She called a rapid response right away and got the provider to bedside. There was some hesitation to call a code stroke because of how the patient had previously presented but Bonnie was confident in her assessment and advocated to call neuro and get the patient to CT right away. She was right, the patient had a new M1 occlusion! They immediately activated an IR code stroke, Bonnie quickly and efficiently put in a new US-guided IV, and the patient was taken for a thrombectomy. Now 3 days later the patient is back on neuro, alert and oriented x4, and speaking normally again.
