He was attentive, caring, and most of all he flexed his communication style and interaction to my husband's style.
On Wednesday my husband was admitted to North Memorial Health Hospital. He was experiencing his 4th stroke at the age of 55. Earlier he was at another hospital that had been dismissive and lacked urgency. As you can imagine he was nervous, tired and a little disoriented. North Memorial was completely full which means the nursing staff was very busy. My husband's nurse - Tommy was wonderful. We could not tell he was busy. He was attentive, caring, and most of all he flexed his communication style and interaction to my husband's style. This is a very unique quality that most people are unaware of the value and the reassurance this brings to someone that is in a traumatic situation. We were advised many years ago that it is difficult to survive a 4th stroke no matter how small. The efficiency and kindness that was shown by Tommy for that one day of interaction with him was a godsend and I believe played a major part in lowering my husband's blood pressure and setting him on the right path of healing.
