Abby was ideal. She greeted J, my husband, the patient warmly, and her presence was comforting. She assessed his needs and medical condition regularly and let him know the details without alarming either of us.
She listened carefully to J, not filling in gaps in his speech (he has hesitancy finding words from his stroke in January 2022). Whenever we were required to change ICU rooms, Abby made sure everything went well. She reattached monitors and checked on other staff’s work without being obtrusive.
She transferred J to a new ICU nurse, ensuring he knew J’s issues, condition, and last readings. The new nurse was up-to-date on everything “J” by the time Abby left to return to her station.
