All the nurses who have helped my mother during this stay, as well as during previous stays, have been very professional, caring, and kind. However, even in such a strong field, Bridget Hogan stands out.

During a particularly challenging, busy, and scary morning, she was a whirl of efficacy, confidence, and comfort. While my Mom, my sister, and I were unsure about what was happening, and amid a crowded room and an even more crowded array of hurried activities and questions, she was an eye in the storm, moving with clarity and sure competence, spreading reassurance as she quickly did her work, all while letting Mom know she cared about her feelings and her particular sensitivities. Bridget made Mom and her family feel that she was the center of all that was happening, even though most of what was being said was technical and detailed.

I asked around to discover how NMH recognizes outstanding nurses and learned about the DAISY Award. While we are sure that plenty of other nurses are also deserving of such recognition, some of them in this same unit, Bridget Hogan stands clearly apart in our hearts. Further, as we understand the award also recognizes everyone in this outstanding unit with Cinnabon cinnamon rolls, there is no question but that these professionals all deserve this gesture of our appreciation and thanks!
