I have worked with Marissa since she started at Jewish Hospital. I have had the privilege to watch her blossom from a novice nurse, mentor her as a relief charge, and peer interview her for the clinical coordinator title she now holds. Marissa is a nurse you hope takes care of your loved one, she is thorough, doesn’t take shortcuts, is kind, and treats all patients, whether assigned to her or not with dignity, compassion, and respect. Her clinical judgment and skill surpass the 5 years she has been on PCU. She is fierce, she will not hesitate to advocate for her patient, exercise the chain of command, and if there is a code, she is the one you want in your coroner. She leads by example and she leads with her heart. She is frequently mentioned by her peers for the amazing support she provides to them on even the most difficult shift. Marissa’s standards for herself and her team are high. The pride she takes in her nursing practice is admirable. She just “gets it”.

She gets the urgency, the severity, and the opportunity we have to make a difference for our patients. The whole unit could be on fire and she finds that light inside of her and shares it with her team. PCU is lucky to have Marissa, her patients are blessed, and as a leader, words cannot describe how happy I am to have her on our team. Marissa exemplifies our mission naturally because it's who she is. She is excellent, compassionate, and called to serve. I thank my lucky stars that life led Marissa to Jewish Hospital.
