Not only was she compassionate, but she was very knowledgeable. She made us feel at ease.
This nurse was a breath of fresh air as soon as she walked into our room. She came in with a smile and just a positive vibe that we definitely needed after going through surgery for appendix rupture. She constantly followed up with us and performed tasks in a timely manner. She was approachable and even if she was busy, whenever she was with us in the room, she never made us feel rushed. She was my husband’s cheerleader when we asked if he could walk, even while being attached to an NG tube. She celebrated milestones that my husband achieved during her 12-hour shift, no matter how small they were. Not only was she compassionate, but she was very knowledgeable. She made us feel at ease. She also actually came by before her shift was over to thank us for being her patients and to wish us well. She took the time to say goodbye and that just meant so much to us. We felt like humans with her instead of “just another post-op patient”. This is what made our experience the best. I learned before she left that she is a new mom with a 3-month-old. Even with her sleepless nights, fatigue, and new struggles of motherhood, she was 100% present for us. She exemplified a true ICARE experience. I believe she was our good luck charm after a rough night. She naturally has a high level of compassionate care. This, along with her clinical skills is what every patient should be receiving, especially at a facility like Houston Methodist. She truly deserves to win a DAISY Award. May she continue to bless more patients with her Integrity, Compassion, Accountability, Respect, and Excellence. Thank you from the bottom of our hearts.
