Melissa took it upon herself to go to the pharmacy and pay for the medication herself and hand deliver it to the patient's house to ensure she was not without her necessary and life-saving medication.
Melissa received a phone call from a patient who had been discharged from the hospital to a rehab facility a week prior. The patient had been sent to the rehab with a small quantity of her Brillinta prescription, but when she was sent home from the rehab, she did not have any Brillinta to continue taking. The patient was very worried as she was on the Brillinta for cardiac stent placement and was concerned her stents would become occluded. Melissa called the facility the patient was at, to find out if the prescription had all been used or if it had been left behind with them or been disposed of. The facility did not have any information to give, so Melissa then started calling the patient's primary pharmacy to find out what could be done and if insurance would cover it, given that the patient had already tried, and was told they could not refill for several days. Melissa was told by the pharmacy that insurance would not fill the script until days later. She then called UMC pharmacy to find out if they could run the script through different coupons to see what they could get covered. UMC pharmacy was able to get all except $40 dollars covered. When Melissa called to notify the patient, she mentioned not having her wallet. Melissa took it upon herself to go to the pharmacy and pay for the medication herself and hand deliver it to the patient's house to ensure she was not without her necessary and life-saving medication. Melissa is truly a service is our passion steward, and incredibly deserving of this DAISY Award. Thank you, Melissa, for all that you do!
