While it wasn't a happy ending, a connection was made and the wife will be forever grateful to Susan.
I wanted to share this letter that MICU RN, Susan Seaton received from the wife of a patient she provided care to. As a token of appreciation, this patient's wife also delivered snacks and other items for both shifts in the MICU. While it wasn't a happy ending, a connection was made and the wife will be forever grateful to Susan. Although it was heartbreaking to see her so tearful, it did provide the team with some relief knowing that she is able to find peace due to the care her husband received. I feel this is a true testimony of how nursing care can impact positive memories during and after a tragic time.
The letter reads: Susan, There are many ways to describe a nurse. Words that come to mind in remembering the care you gave my husband, F, include kind, compassionate, gentle,e and empathetic. You were with F in his last minutes and hours. Thank you for the wonderful care you provided my loved one. He would have liked you. You are a credit to nursing and patients are lucky to have you.
