We had a patient on BHU who came in that seemed like she hadn't bathed, washed, or combed her hair in months. Sierra offered to get said patient to bathe and asked if she wanted her to help get the matted hair undone. The patient refused but later came and asked if she would still help her with her hair. Sierra looked all over the hospital trying to find anything that would help save the lady's hair (couldn’t find much) but she made a few phone calls and by that morning she had supplies brought in to help the patient save the hair she did have. She knew it wasn’t going to be an easy task and asked other coworkers to help work on the hair throughout the next shift as well. It's people like Sierra that patients need when they come into our facility. Someone who shows compassion and makes them feel validated and safe at such a vulnerable time.
