Sarah was fantastic in every aspect of our stay. She cared for our son for most of his CVICU stay. Sarah spent almost the entirety of each shift at his bedside, closely monitoring his stats, labs, and clinical appearance. Sarah’s deep technical knowledge and hands-on experience with him allowed her to advocate on his behalf as she remained a consistent fixture as the intensivists rotated weekly. Sarah was direct, clear, and mindful in communicating with us as parents. Sarah was empathetic but kept our conversations grounded in reality. Not only did she care for our son, but she watched out for us at all times as well. She created opportunities for us to be involved each day, regardless of his status. Our engagement looked different on some days, but the best days included bath time, diaper changes, and other stretching activities. Even on our hardest days, she was able to give us a sense of "normal" parenting and excelled at communicating complex news while supporting us. On the day that our son passed away, Sarah made sure that we as parents had every opportunity to love, touch and eventually hold our son. Sara helped make one of the hardest days imaginable a beautiful goodbye, and for that, we are ever grateful.
