Maggie, as she likes to be called, worked as a floor nurse in Huntington Hospital years ago, but has been in this dermatology office for over 20 years. She exudes professionalism, courtesy, and respect. She knows the patients well, welcomes them into the office, listens to them, and hears their personal and medical stories. Her judgement is excellent in working with medical patients and assisting with surgery. She talks to patients and keeps them relaxed and entertained during procedures. She is a leader among the nurses in the office, all of whom she has helped to train. She is cheerful and dedicated to the office and, more importantly, the patients.

No matter how busy the office is, Maggie is the first to assist a patient in need, or cheer up a patient or staff member who is feeling down. She never turns down a task and will always see it through to completion. Her sense of humor in the office keeps everyone around her in good spirits.

Her nursing skills are excellent. Even when procedures are difficult, she maintains composure and has a wonderful sense of where she needs to be. She anticipates my surgical needs, and is an outstanding surgical assistant.

In the treatment rooms with medical patients, she will never leave a patient who may require assistance. Be it a dressing that needs to be applied, or difficulty getting dressed or putting on shoes, she is always there for what is most important in medicine, providing support to the patient in a deeply respectful way.

Maggie epitomizes what it means to be a nurse. She is the role model young nurses should strive to be.
