Evan will specifically make time in her day to walk with them (even if they are not her patients that day), to talk with them, or just sit and listen to their story, their frustrations, and their hopes and dreams.
I am nominating Evan Termini for a DAISY Award on behalf of our patients that cannot speak for themselves! If my family or I were ever in the hospital, I would definitely want Evan as my nurse!

Evan really thinks about her patients. She cares about their physical well-being as well as their mental and emotional well-being. She is particularly great with our long-stay patients. Evan goes out of her way to spend time with the long-stay patients who are easily forgotten during the daily busy rush. These patients usually have a difficult time making their needs known and advocating for themselves. Evan will specifically make time in her day to walk with them (even if they are not her patients that day), to talk with them, or just sit and listen to their story, their frustrations, and their hopes and dreams.

We have a very young patient in our unit right now. Evan found out he likes to read and write stories. She took time to make him little books with his favorite characters to read and write in. She thought up fun prompts and questions for him to answer.

Another example is a patient we had for months who had a TBI and very labile emotions and got easily frustrated with outbursts ranging from sad and crying to angry to happy in the span of minutes. Evan would always try to make his day better, try to keep him upbeat, and make sure he remembered there was a good plan for him to discharge to an AFH with other people there to talk to.

Over the time Evan has worked at St. Clare, she has consistently shown this deep caring and
thoughtfulness of our long-stay patients as well as all of her patients. Evan takes time to use her critical thinking skills and nursing judgment and not just do a task because it was ordered. She has a questioning attitude and will advocate for the comfort and well-being of her patients.

Evan really exemplifies what the DAISY Award is all about. I am so proud and happy to work with her and to watch her grow into a wonderful, holistic nurse.
