Christy has been a nurse longer than I have been alive. An amazing mentor and teacher, she is passionate about this underserved population of psychiatric patients. She never wants to be stagnant in her practice or knowledge, keeping herself educated and at the pinnacle of self-development; she is an inspiration to nurses as we are always learning something new. She is invested in self-development and educates herself. Simply put, she makes you want to learn more. Highly skilled in her approach and working with an interdisciplinary attitude to patient care, she is a true patient advocate, persuasive in her arguments to the team on behalf of her patients, meeting all their needs, from psychological to physical. As a result of all her expert years of experience, she thinks of all the aspects of patient care simultaneously. It is an honor to sit at her feet and glean from her years of experience, and a blessing to work alongside her. She is a calm, focused, and comforting presence not only to the nurses and providers she mentors but also to the patients. She is an expert at communicating with them on their level to provide the safe, quality care that she is known for. We are in awe of her adaptability. After over 30 years in her inpatient psychiatric care role, she chose to begin a new journey, taking a leap out of her comfort zone and venturing into a new level of patient care, she is now meeting the needs of psychiatric patients at their entry point in the emergency department, calmly meeting them in their highest level of crisis. She calmly, lovingly, and professionally provides the safety net they need. It is with great pride and admiration that we submit this nomination on behalf of this Christy, who is a nurse at work while on the clock, at home, at the grocery store, on the phone, and everywhere she travels. There is no separation for her – she is a nurse: it is her calling. She embodies the DAISY qualities.
