You are so very lucky to have Stephanie on your staff. She is one of a kind, highly, highly skilled, and a true gem all in one. We have had a very stressful 2-week admission to MHTW (ER>Regular Floor>Rapid Response>IMU>ICU>Regular Floor). My husband was very ill with pneumonia and sepsis when we landed at IMU. Despite IV meds, he was getting progressively worse over the first 5 plus days of his admission. He has underlying conditions; hence the worsening hypoxia was very scary to witness (especially since the IV ABS were not touching it). Stephanie played a huge role in K’s care, keeping him stable through episodes of high fever, and unstable vitals, while helping us to remain calm and hopeful. In hindsight, she was also very pivotal in K’s turning the corner, even though we left her in IMU for ICU, Stephanie is such an effective patient educator. She always gave us 100% of her attention when she was with us. She had a consistently calm demeanor, even in our most acute and stressful circumstances. She answered every question we asked in full detail and then some. Information and education were so beneficial to us during that time. She explained in detail what we could/should expect as we were being transferred to ICU, which was very helpful to my husband. I hope MH recognizes her skill in this area. She would be an asset in training and mentoring other nurses. Spending a shift with her would benefit any new nurse. MH would be a better place with more nurses like her! Her knowledge, skill, and oversight of the clinical big picture were also evident throughout. She was a pivotal voice in bringing I.D. on board to help the hospitalist figure things out. Please extend to her our heartfelt gratitude.
