I was so afraid that I wouldn’t be able to have a vaginal delivery. Helen made sure that wasn’t the case.
I came to Bothwell to have my second child. I had a very traumatic birth with my first and was very afraid of going in. Our first daughter came very quickly. I was afraid to have my second at home, so I went to the hospital somewhat early. I was not progressing much at all and was scheduled to be induced that morning anyway. I spent the evening in Labor and Delivery with little to no change.

That morning, I was induced as scheduled. I spent the majority of the day without any progress again. Then later in the day, Helen came in. I was so afraid that I wouldn’t be able to have a vaginal delivery. Helen made sure that wasn’t the case. She put me in a very specific position and helped me to progress quickly. I was in active labor and had my daughter within 4 hours of her helping me.

3.5 years later, I came in for a partial hysterectomy. I remembered Helen and asked for her when I arrived. I was having a lot of pain while in certain positions and couldn’t determine why. Pain medications weren’t helping. Helen came in later in the evening and determined that I had gas that was causing all of the discomfort and did everything she needed to do to get me better. I want to nominate Helen because as I would like to say, she is an old-school nurse that has all of the secrets. She lowered my stress levels and helped me to get through labor and surgery. I am so grateful for Helen.
