This was a challenging situation since the patient would benefit from starting insulin treatment, but there were barriers in place that they would first need to overcome in order to administer his medication safely. Veronica played a vital role in assisting with this patient's care and safety.
I would like to nominate this RN as she is great nurse to work with. She is a true advocate for her patients and staff. She is knowledgeable and receptive of medical inputs. When it comes to patient care, she is with the patients, and takes a firm stance as to what we should do as a medical team to help the patient. She is a true team player and it is always a pleasure to work with her, as she always displays an upbeat, positive attitude with her peers and patients. I highly recommend her for a DAISY Award without any doubt. I have worked with her for about six years now and I am very grateful to have such a wonderful nurse as part of our team. Thank you for giving me a chance to express my gratitude to a great nurse.

This RN is one of the most compassionate nurses I have worked with. She is always willing to help all patients no matter what the outcome is. This nurse responded to a medical assist call in the lab where she quickly jumped into action by grabbing the emergency bag and running to assist. She is a team player and will never hesitate when asked to cover at other clinics. She is very passionate about her role as a nurse, as she Is always advocating for all her patients. She is very dependable and has trained many nursing students and new staff as she has a great passion for teaching. She always displays the upmost respect to all her patients and peers. I believe she is a DAISY Nurse. Thank You

I would like to nominate this nurse as I feel she deserves this prestigious recognition. I have worked with her for over five years and have seen firsthand the compassion she displays for her patients. She is very generous with her knowledge, experience, and time. I have personally learned a lot from her, and she is always willing to assist when needed. She is an excellent preceptor, as I have firsthand heard students say how much they have learned from her and how they appreciate her feedback. A few months ago, she had a nurse visit for a glucometer and insulin teaching. When she quickly realized the barriers this patient had, she quickly reached out to her peers to see how she could best assist this patient. I remember her being puzzled about what the best plan of care would be as this patient could not safely or correctly administer his insulin on his own due to his impaired vision. I don't remember the exact details, but I believed he had cataracts & needed eye surgery. The eye doctor wouldn't do any surgery until the patient had improved glycemic control. The patient lived alone and relied heavily on his sister to assist with his care. After several discussions, including the patient, his sister, our team (MD, nurse manager, social worker, pharmacist, and dietitian) the patient's sister agreed to learn to administer the insulin & find a way to help the patient take it daily. The patient and sister also recommended a neighbor and good family friend to help the patient with being compliant by helping him administer his insulin when his sister is not available. This nurse offered to teach the neighbor how to draw up and administer the insulin if she needed assistance. She spent an extended amount of time teaching them both the importance of being compliant and how to properly administer his insulin and check his blood sugars. This was a challenging situation since the patient would benefit from starting insulin treatment, but there were barriers in place that they would first need to overcome in order to administer his medication safely. This nurse played a vital role in assisting with this patient's care and safety.

This nurse is a firm believer in always advocating for patients. She has always expressed that she wants everyone to treat every patient as if they are caring for one of their loved ones. She is very detail-oriented and always strives to provide the best care for her patients and everyone she encounters. She has been a nurse for over 11 years, and I have witnessed several occasions of the true compassionate care she provides, as she will always go above and beyond for her patients. She is an excellent educator who has precepted many nursing students and new employees. Her passion and patience for teaching have always been very much appreciated by her peers and the nursing students she has helped along the way. During a nurse visit she encounter a patient who was referred for glucometer and insulin teaching. The patient came in with his sister, who assisted the patient as the patient had problems with his vision. This patient presented some barriers preventing him from safely administering his insulin. She quickly jumped into action, making calls to see how she could help this patient as his A1c was very high, and this patient needed to start on insulin to be able to get control of his DM to be approved for surgery. She then took the time to teach the patient and his sister on the importance of starting this medication and being compliant with it. The patient lived alone and relied solely on his sister for assistance with his care. The sister expressed concern as she was not sure if she could go to the patient's home every day to assist with his medications. Once the nurse explained the importance of getting better glycemic control in order to be approved for his surgery, the sister agreed to help the patient. The sister expressed that she wanted her brother to get the surgery in order to become more self-sufficient, so she agreed to help him with administering his insulin and checking his blood sugars. The patient also mentioned that a neighbor and close family friend was also willing to help if his sister was not available. This nurse offered to teach the neighbor on how to properly draw up and administer the insulin to ensure the patient received the correct dose. This is just one of the many times I have seen this nurse go above and beyond for her patients. I have seen many times how patients have expressed their gratitude to her at time of discharge. She always takes her time to ensure the patients fully understand their discharge instructions. As this nurse is bilingual, I have seen how her Spanish-speaking patients feel more at ease with her and have opened up to her, as they often feel lost due to the language barrier. She is a true example of a true team player who is always willing to step up, help, and take charge when needed.
