Her calm bedside manner, her knowledge, and her sense of humor definitely helped to calm me in a nerve-racking situation.
I would like to bring attention to an employee of the main line health system that is employed as a registered nurse at Lankenau Hospital’s emergency department. Her name is Dieu Geraci. I came to Lankenau Hospital with a terrible pain in my left flank. To say I was nervous was an understatement. This pain began 5 days earlier and had not subsided. My mind automatically started playing tricks on me and diagnosed me with some sort of terminal disease. It was then I decided that I needed to be seen. I arrived at Lankenau, and everyone was extremely helpful and polite. I waited my turn to be registered, (the registrars were fantastic). However, now being in the process to be seen, caused my heart to beat a little faster, my palms to become sweaty, and my anxiety was creeping up. The fear of the unknown was getting the best of me. I was then escorted back into a room, and that is when Dieu came in to assess me. Her calm bedside manner, her knowledge, and her sense of humor definitely helped to calm me in a nerve-racking situation. I felt at ease and was finally able to feel like I was going to be okay. I know she was busy with other patients, and was hustling taken care of them, but when Dieu came into my room, I felt like I was her only patient and she gave me one hundred percent of her undivided attention, and she made sure I was comfortable and did not need anything before she moved on. This happened several times during my visit. Luckily my diagnosis was not as bad as I originally self-diagnosed myself with. And have to follow up with a specialist. But Dieu made sure that I knew who to follow up with before I was discharged. I am not sure who reads this, but it goes without saying that Dieu Geraci is a great reflection on her Nurse Manager, the director of nursing, all the way to the president of Main Line Health. I am not saying that the rest of the nursing staff, the Doctors, the staff for my CT scan, or any other unrecognized employee were not good. I just want to recognize the one staff member that made my stay great. Not that I want to see Dieu anytime soon, but I can only hope that my next trip to the Emergency Room at Lankenau has her as my nurse.
