She never shied away from my grief and was gentle in helping me focus on my recovery so that I could turn my energy to our baby girl.
In Sept of 2022 - I delivered a baby girl who arrived unresponsive. The Meriter team whisked her away and took incredible care of her - but Nurse Sam in postpartum provided me the most incredible comfort and care during those first three days when I was recovering and couldn’t be with her. Nurse Sam was the kindest, most caring, thoughtful nurse I could have asked for during the scariest time in my life. During those early days, we didn’t think we would ever be able to go home with our new baby, and Nurse Sam saw me through the tears. She never shied away from my grief and was gentle in helping me focus on my recovery so that I could turn my energy to our baby girl. Nurse Sam not only did everything you could ask for from a nurse after delivery - making sure I was hydrated, watching my pain levels, helping me pump — but she went above and beyond in her care for me emotionally. She was incredibly competent and efficient in my medical care — I looked forward to and felt comforted by her visits. But she was also a teacher in helping me learn about my body in recovery, an advocate in helping me make decisions, and a wealth of resources in navigating the information I needed for myself and our new baby. Not only that, but I was Covid positive, so every single time she had to come into my room, she had to get covered from head to toe and never once showed any annoyance or burden in caring for me in such a way. Nurse Sam even went above and beyond visiting us and our baby girl in the NICU several weeks postpartum.

We will truly never forget Nurse Sam. She made the most traumatic time in our lives a little bit easier and brought comfort at a time when all we saw was despair. Her competency, positive yet empathetic attitude, and compassion gave us the most extraordinary care.
