She showed compassion to the patient and was able to identify an emergent situation and make things happen in a very challenging environment.
Carrie goes above and beyond to take care of her patients. Often in TDCJ, it is difficult to provide care because of security restraints within the facility. Despite the challenges, Carrie goes above and beyond to ensure quality and timely care to the patients. There was a patient who came to clinic who complained of bleeding from his colostomy and looked weak and pale. The patient had notified the nurses in the holding area, but they told him to wait until he got to his clinic appointment. The patient was panicking and was scared because he had been bleeding for quite some time. Carrie looked at the colostomy and saw a pouch full of blood removed the pouch to asses the stoma, and the patient was actively bleeding copious amounts of blood out of his colostomy. She immediately assessed the patient and made sure he was safe and quickly alerted security for an emergent need to get the patient to the ER, where he could be treated appropriately. She showed compassion to the patient and was able to identify an emergent situation and make things happen in a very challenging environment. There is no doubt in my mind that Carrie saved the patient's life by just listening and acting quickly and efficiently. The care provided often gets overlooked in TDCJ but I can say that Carrie consistently goes above and beyond to make sure the patients' needs are addressed.
