The most remarkable thing Amber did was she returned to the hospital that night on her own time and stayed and supported our family through his passing.
My brother-in-law, 32, was admitted to the Neurosurgical ICU following brain surgery after he was found unresponsive at home. He had been battling testicular cancer, and we had recently found out it had metastasized to his brain. The whole day was an unexpected whirlwind from him being intubated and flown to Charlotte, emergency brain surgery and being told the coming days would be critical for his survival. Amber Meadows was his nurse when he was admitted to the Neurosurgical ICU that afternoon. She always seemed so calm and collected. She was very knowledgeable about his condition and answered all of the questions we had with honesty. She kept us up to date with all of his test results and upcoming procedures. Amber was also his nurse the next day when we were told his EEG didn't show brain activity. The family decided to take him off the vent the next day. Well, my brother-in-law decided to take matters into his own hands and things went downhill fast later that evening after Amber had left. The most remarkable thing Amber did was she returned to the hospital that night on her own time and stayed and supported our family through his passing. Now that is true compassion. That is something she didn't have to do, and many would not. Amber Meadows was a true blessing to our family during that time, and for that, I think she deserves the DAISY Award.
