These nurses provided the gift of comfort to a patient who had no family in the area. His nursing caregivers acted as his family during his last moments of life.
On a Friday evening, Nurse Leslie Church called Pastoral Services requesting Chaplaincy to pray for her patient whom she felt would soon pass away. The chaplain responded immediately. Entering the patient’s room, both Leslie Church and Chloe Hromockyj were holding the patient’s hands and surrounding him with love, care, and compassion. The patient passed minutes after the chaplain prayed with him.
Leslie stated afterward that he had pleaded with her to not leave him. This chaplain was deeply moved and comforted by Leslie and her coworker Chloe. Nursing clinical care is a priority; however, nursing spiritual care is the gift both Leslie and Chloe provided for which I am certain made the patient’s trip to the heavenlies with the assurance that, indeed, he was loved and cared for in the way Jesus taught and expects us to exhibit. My grand regards to Leslie and Chloe for their nursing gifts.
