Amy Underwood, RN was nominated for the DAISY Award for the compassionate care she provides and her fast response whenever a patient needs assistance.

This was especially seen in a recent phone encounter that Amy had with an elderly patient. In responding to a patient’s medical problem message, Amy noticed that the patient’s speech became garbled and immediately notified her colleague to call 911 as she remained on the phone with the patient. The patient became very anxious as she was home alone and recognized that something was very wrong. Amy talked with the patient to calm her fears and told her that emergency services was being sent out to her immediately.

Amy even had a chance to speak to the patient’s husband as he arrived home sometime after the call began. Amy explained the situation to the patient’s husband and let him know that the ambulance was on the way. Amy stayed on the phone with the family until EMS arrived.

Amy was so concerned for the patient; she was almost in tears as she thought about the fear that the patient must have felt while waiting for the initial call back from the nurse. This truly shows Amy’s compassion for her patients and her advocacy to support them in a timely manner.
