I was at the scariest point in my life, but the nurses were so compassionate and optimistic, and kept my spirits up.
I had just given birth to my 3rd child one week prior when I started having issues with my speech. I was airlifted to Aurora and immediately went into surgery. I had a stroke. I wasn’t sure if I was going to wake up again, but I did. I was woken up every 15 minutes, every 30 minutes, every hour, and so on with such kindness. I was at the scariest point in my life, but the nurses were so compassionate and optimistic, and kept my spirits up. At first, all I could say was yes or no and they encouraged me every time I was able to say a new word and texted my husband for me when I couldn’t. They shared stories, made me laugh, and looked out for me when I thought the baby should visit me at the hospital. Looking back, I really needed to focus on my own health. I will be forever grateful and will hold a special place in my heart for the ICU nurses who cared for me.
