Marty left a long day of work to take the family out to dinner so they had something enjoyable to do while they were in town.
Marty is the type of Nurse that you want on your team every day. Her care and expertise are essential to the functioning of our very busy Maternal Fetal Medicine clinic. Her responsibilities are numerous including thorough chart preparation for our new patients, care coordination for complex cases where multiple specialties are required, escorting patients to triage and keeping them calm during their trip, performing antenatal testing, and ensuring that tasks are complete before signing off for the day. These responsibilities could be considered normal nursing duties, but Marty goes beyond.
She has maintained friendships with patients and their families for years after they've left her care; just recently a former patient who was from out of town was being seen for a complex procedure and was staying at the Ronald McDonald House. Marty left a long day of work to take the family out to dinner so they had something enjoyable to do while they were in town.
There was also the time that, again after a long tiring day, Marty encountered one of our patients lost in the parking lot and she stayed with the patient, calmed her as she was quite upset, and remained with her until the patient was safe. We are a regional care provider and have patients who travel long distances to visit us. It is not uncommon for Marty to walk these patients to the cafeteria or our other on-campus food options so they can have a meal and maybe feel a bit more comfortable with their situation and surroundings. Marty goes beyond the normal expected role of a nurse and will always be a DAISY in my heart.
Note: This is Marty's 2nd DAISY Award!
