Day after day, she made phone calls to APL and tried to persuade them to let him have his dog back. APL finally agreed.
At the end of August 2022, a male patient that was homeless had a traumatic head injury. He had fallen from being intoxicated or substance abuse and he owned a service dog. The Anderson Police Department called an ambulance for the man and animal control for the dog. The man was admitted to the CCU for weeks. Sharon was his case manager when he was coherent, he was crying that his dog was all he had and he needed to get the dog back. Sharon made several calls to APL and was not getting anywhere. So, the RN got the doctor involved & asked if he would call the director of Animal Control. Day after day, she made phone calls to APL and tried to persuade them to let him have his dog back. APL finally agreed. After about a month the patient was getting released from the hospital. Sharon called the APL, so they would have the dog ready. She then found out that he was going to need a ride from the hotel he was staying to the APL to pick up the dog. Sharon agreed to do this for the patient because all he had was his dog. When the patient was picked up at the hotel by Sharon and taken to get his dog, the reunion was priceless. This is only one story of many this fantastic person had done for strangers and our patients every day without blinking an eye.
