She said she was upset that her husband hadn't sent her flowers (even though he had passed). Brandy gathered my father's information and had the most beautiful flowers delivered from my father.
My mother was admitted to 4E for a stroke. She wouldn't eat. She grew depressed. Brandy would bring her favorite foods or have them delivered to her so she could get her nutrition. My mother became so attached to Brandy. She is the only one who could get her to eat. She would spend some of her lunch breaks with mom and they would enjoy a chicken sandwich together. After her shift was over, she would come and sit down and talk with Mom before she would go home. She would never let her leave without kissing her on the cheek. All night, Mom would ask when Brandy would be back. She became her favorite person to see and she would do anything Brandy asked of her. She had to be transferred to ICU during her stay, and she asked for Brandy every day. Brandy came everyday that she worked and checked on her.
My mother did pass. But Brandy was right by her side the entire time. But one thing stuck out to me during our stay on the regular floor. As I said, my mom had dementia, and it was severe. She cried often. She said she was upset that her husband hadn't sent her flowers (even though he had passed). Brandy gathered my father's information and had the most beautiful flowers delivered from my father. My mother's eyes lit up and she was so excited. She smiled from ear to ear. I hadn't seen my mother that happy in a very long time. Brandy has compassion. I have never experienced a nurse that would pull a seat up and sit down with a patient and just converse. Even though I knew she had other patients to care for, you would have never known it. She made my mother and me feel like we were the only patients on the floor. She never seemed rushed. She always gave that extra minute to make my family and me feel heard.
We adopted Brandy during our stay there. Though the final result wasn't what we expected, Brandy made the journey a little more bearable. I am truly forever grateful for Brandy and her beautiful heart. My mother's last days on Earth were even more beautiful because Brandy's heart, compassion, and dedication were absolutely unfathomable.
