I am a regular patient (at Leicester Hospitals particularly) with an inherited genetic disease. my health is very complex and I have constant scans/operations/tests (experiments)/ bloods and procedures throughout the year. I am so lucky to have such a close-knit endocrinology team for constant communication and support. Emma is my main nurse and constantly goes above and beyond to make sure that I fully understand the tests that I am having and what they involve. Not only this, but she will also adjust her working day and even her schedule to accommodate me and ensure that I have a hand to hold and a familiar face. For example, quite recently, this happened for a pretty traumatising procedure. She put her day aside to come into theatre with me to calm my nerves and keep my anxiety at bay and I couldn’t thank her enough. It is something I will never forget and couldn’t have got through so easily without her constant reassurance. Additionally, to this she will look after me with my cups of tea when I am in all day and is always on top of my emails. Not just to me but to contacting others on my behalf to sort appointments and any questions/confusion have. She will always try to find me a solution or answer to my queries and nothing is a silly question. She sits in all of my consultations for endocrinology discussions and makes sure that anything planned is acted on immediately. Emma has become a very important part of my life, my health is a full-time job! We can talk about anything, so much so I can call her my friend- she is never allowed to retire aha!
