Cynthia Boostedt is one of the most compassionate and kind nurses I had the honor of getting to know. She goes above and beyond to care for her patients. Being a nurse on the CICU can be challenging, but not for Cynthia. For Cynthia, being a nurse is what she was born to do. She cares for her patients not only in a safe and protective manner but also goes out of her way to include family members in the plan of care.

She was quick to respond to critical alarms and effectively contacted the provider to get new orders in. For instance, on one shift she tracked down the doctor to advocate for a weaning trial on a ventilated patient. She took the time to stay with the family and explain what the weaning trial would look like. She sat with the husband and explained each medication that was being used so that he could understand his wife's condition.

Cynthia constantly utilizes evidence based practices and less invasive methods to support and comfort her critical ill patients. She truly enjoys educating families as well as other nurses and students. Additionally, she's supportive and allows family members to discuss their fears and emotions regarding procedures. When she cares for a patient she treats them like her own family. The CICU is incredibly lucky to have her as a nurse and it was an honor to witness the level of empathy and compassion she provides for our community.
