She is a fierce advocate not only for her patients but for her team as well. She makes you feel comfortable and looked out for, and that is rare!
Shannon is an incredible charge nurse. She is constantly rounding on her nurses, jumping in to answer questions and do any task that is asked of her. I am a traveler and a float from a different unit and I have worked with her many times. She is a fierce advocate not only for her patients but for her team as well. She makes you feel comfortable and looked out for, and that is rare!

Shannon never sits. She is always rounding on her nurses and making sure everyone feels supported. She is respectful and kind and a very good teacher. She sat down with me and explained a patient's entire anatomy in order for me to better care for the child. She is always looking for opportunities to teach and she is a role model to seasoned nurses and new nurses alike.

Shannon is a strong advocate for the patients in the CVICU. She rounds with the medical team and knows everything about each patient on the floor. There was a night I worked with her when we did not have a patient care tech and she jumped right in to round with the floor's stock cart to make sure her nurses had the supplies they needed. It is little things like this that sometimes go unnoticed but make our jobs as bedside RNs significantly less stressful. She is always optimistic and kind and truly provides excellent care to the CVICU patients.

Johns Hopkins values patient care and creating a safe environment for children to heal. Shannon is a kind, respectful, and knowledgeable nurse. She uses her excellent skills as a bedside RN to educate in the role of charge RN. She makes the role of charge nurse look easy with her upbeat personality and approachability.

I feel very lucky to work alongside Shannon! As a traveler, you are often overlooked and can feel unsupported at times. This is completely not the case whenever Shannon is in charge in the CVICU. She is an excellent charge RN.
